"Emak Bakia" by Man Ray 1926 (16:09)
My first initial reaction to watching Emak-Bakia was that it was weird and foreign. The more I continued to watch this video I began to discover a meaning. I enjoyed how Man Ray use simple objects yet gave significance to the object by putting it in motion.
My favorite scene from this video was the ocean setting. I love how Man Ray only showed clips such as a lady moving her legs on the sand, the rippling of the water, the fish swimming by, etc. Although every clip was individual in its own way each clip seamlessly shifted and made sense with the next.
I really enjoyed watching the various translucent fish float by from an interesting angle that was underwater looking up. To me this was the most interesting section of the video. I love how objects varied in shades from bright light to deep darks. Translucency also varied for each subject so some fish you could see through and some where solidified which made the simple subjects have a deeper meaning.
