Music Video Responses
1. Screen Play: Cutting of arrangement of lines and scene, well-edited and clear flow of narrative. Random? Cut together
2. Setting: Time and place. Good costume choice and good set design. Did it emphasize music video theme
3. Visuals: Camera shots, costume sets, outdoor scenes, lighting, movement
4. Choice of music: music corresponds to visual
5. Overall effectiveness: Mood, tone, emotion provoked. What do you think about this video?
Alex & Anna Coldplay “Life in Technicolor ii”
1. (Screen Play) - Arrangement of color, lines and scenes were well done. Clear narrative. Good use of multiple scenes. - Good job of personifying the bike - Light and airy, shows a lot of joy
2. (Setting) - Good use of colored background and outdoor shots. The greenery - Costumes seem to fit the narrative. Colorful and fits each setting. - Bold colors against graffiti wall - Soft pastels against nature
3. (Visuals) - Good camera angles and shots - Music video has constant motion
4. (Choice of Music) - good choice of music for the mood of the song
5. (Overall Effectiveness) - Some slight cutting details that need to be change - Maybe work on the blowout highlights - Good mood and tone are translated into the music video
Allyson, Abby, Bailey John Butler Trio “To Look Like You”
1. (Screen Play) - I thought the narrative was kind of slow as far as having a story plot line. There are really only two confronting ideas: Being alone in this world in the street and getting ready in her bathroom. - Wishing she was someone else - Scenes are repeated many times.. lose the impact of the narrative when clips are played over and over again.
2. (Setting) - Two main settings outdoor and indoor. - She isn’t dressed different from any other girl in the mall scene - Her costume could have been a little bit brighter?
3. (Visuals) - Good angles. Camera spins around subject. Good close ups on the clothing scenes. I really enjoyed how they reversed the clips where Jill is standing in the middle of the road. - Error in the fact that the camera shows up in the frame where all the magazines are put on the mirror - Depth of field in the closet with the clothes - Lighting on the inside bathroom scene could have been more contrast
4. (Choice of Music) - Good choice of music
5. (Overall Effectiveness) - This music video is effective but I think it lacks intensity. Overall effectiveness could have been improved by extra footage.

Music Video Influence
I will be working with Jill and one of our mutual favorite musicians is Childish Gamnino (Donald Glover). Here is a list of songs/ music videos of song ideas. He does not have many music videos to base our ideas off over so these two are more for music purposes.
Good use of panning in this video!
One of my favorite artists Lupe Fiasco came out with a new album here are a few examples of his style. I like the soft transitions and mood of "Battle Scars".

"Emak Bakia" by Man Ray 1926 (16:09)
My first initial reaction to watching Emak-Bakia was that it was weird and foreign. The more I continued to watch this video I began to discover a meaning. I enjoyed how Man Ray use simple objects yet gave significance to the object by putting it in motion.
My favorite scene from this video was the ocean setting. I love how Man Ray only showed clips such as a lady moving her legs on the sand, the rippling of the water, the fish swimming by, etc. Although every clip was individual in its own way each clip seamlessly shifted and made sense with the next.
I really enjoyed watching the various translucent fish float by from an interesting angle that was underwater looking up. To me this was the most interesting section of the video. I love how objects varied in shades from bright light to deep darks. Translucency also varied for each subject so some fish you could see through and some where solidified which made the simple subjects have a deeper meaning.
