Exit Through the Gift Shop

Exit through the gift shop was an insightful film that introduced graffiti culture as an art form. I enjoyed watching this film and seeing the progression of Thierry Guetta as he started as a  struggled film writer then became a street artist himself. This film was a great representation of art in modern terms and how we as society view graffiti as art or a criminal offense.

In high school I wrote about Mister Brainwash and his appropriations. After this movie I'm not sure whether or not to call MBW an artist. He seems a little scatter brain but obviously he is very passionate about street art and creating outrages movements. I argue that Mr. Brainwash is a community of artists as we saw in the film. Theirry's success was derived from people like Banksy, Borf, and Sheppard Fairy who inspired him. In addition he was surrounded by a staff of people doing the background work so to speak.
